“Preacher? Preacher? We love you Preacher” … Pale Rider

Clint Eastwood Produced, Directed and Starred in 1985’s Pale Rider. This is probably my favorite of his Westerns. Clint Eastwood is “The Preacher”, a stranger who helps a group of gold miners who are being bullied off their claims. There are alot of religious/supernatural references in the movie, which is one of the elements that I enjoy. The title directly refers to one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse …

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. (Revelation 6:8)

A girl prays at the start of the film for someone to defend them and soon the Preacher arrives. With the Preacher on their side, the Gold Miners stand up to the greedy and powerful LaHood and his gang. LaHood hires a band of killers which leads to a great showdown.

Pale Rider was a great movie — too bad Clint had to go and steal the plot and story line right out of “Shane” — so it was hardly an original. Shades of Alan Ladd and Jean Arthur …
